Long Community Description
The Straus Center started in 2009, due to a generous endowment from members of the community, led by the Straus family. The Straus Center was developed to address an unmet need to support seniors on Mount Desert Island who were in need of health and social services but wished to remain living at home. The Straus Center is a program of Birch Bay Village, MDI’s Continuing Care Retirement Community, and is also affiliated with the Mount Desert Island Hospital Organization.
